Maryland lawmakers voted this year to raise the sales tax on alcohol by three cents on the dollar. This may not seem like much to us but bar owners are going to stick it to us to cover the tax.
But when the increase kicks in Friday, bar patrons could see prices going up by twice as much.
Chalk it up to bar economics: Bar owners, who typically include the sales tax as part of a beverage’s advertised price, don’t like dealing in pennies, nickels or dimes. Prices, particularly at the local joints, are set in 25-cent increments– some as much as 50-cent extra!
This means that apple Martini will go from $9.75 to $10.00 #YIKES. GLAMs, it seems cheaper to just buy bottles when out on the town– round up the crew, get a table and really do it up 🙂 It just makes more “cents”. Drink responsible and bring extra cash
